So many of my photos face into the sun, but sometimes the better photo is in the opposite direction. On this late afternoon, the sun, low on the horizon, cast its warm light onto the capitol building and surrounding trees. Juxtaposed with the golden foreground, the sky revealed a striking blue hue, thanks to the day having very little humidity. Adding to this, a series of cloud bands drifted into the scene, symmetrically arcing over the Capitol building.

This moment only lasted for a few minutes - any later and the sun would have dipped beneath the horizon, no longer illuminating the foreground - any sooner and the clouds would not have existed and the sunlight wouldn't have been a warm enough color hue. It was a special moment in a special place.
