The Battery Park City neighborhood in lower Manhattan is built entirely from reclaimed land. Only a few decades ago, the area still belonged to the Hudson river. Consequently, the usual flow of traffic and activity throughout the city, evolved from centuries of city planning, generally doesn't route through the neighborhood. Therefore, Battery Park City is an unusual area of peace and quiet amid the never-ending din of lower Manhattan. It is for this reason that I love photographing it.
After watching the moon's trajectory through the night sky for some time, I found the date where it would appear to be setting perfectly into the heart of Battery Park City, helping to convey the peaceful slumber the neighborhood enters every night.
