Dubai is an architect's playground. Fanciful buildings dot the landscape in every direction. This complex of residences is known as the Executive Towers. What struck me about these buildings is that every one would be the centerpiece tower of an average American city and yet they didn't particularly stand out amid the other Dubai skyscrapers.

As the sun came up over the desert and streaked between the towers, the sky filled with a wispy haze of clouds. I was on the rooftop of a nearby building and exposed more than 100 photos to stitch together into this scene. When Dubai does something, it does so in an over-the-top fashion; so much so that every corner of the city is a cliché of tacky excess and architectural melodrama. To evoke a similar feel, I decided to wrap the photo into a semi-sphere.
